NOT Acting Our Age: Older Women Challenging Gender Stereotypes and Celebrating Life

Curiosity Creative were approached by Professor Karen Ross at Newcastle University to run some digital storytelling workshops to support a new research project exploring the sterotyping around women ageing.

Decades of research into how women are represented in media and popular culture have demonstrated that as women get older, they become less visible and when they do put in an appearance, they are often shown in stereotyped roles and contexts. The project aims to challenge those gendered and ageist images by working with older women to tell their own stories and show the richness and diversity of their lives in relation to family, friends and communities. It comprises three elements: digital story-telling, photographic exhibition and public event.
